The search for Luigi Cavallari, husband of Italian Family Minister Eugenia Roccella, has come to a tragic conclusion after his body was discovered in Lake Vico, in central Italy. Cavallari was located by police divers following weeks of intensive search operations. According to Italian authorities, the body was found approximately one kilometer from the spot where he was last seen on the afternoon of June 27. Authorities also confirmed that he was recovered at a distance of roughly 20 meters from the lake’s shoreline. A forensic medical examiner was expected at the scene to carry out the required procedures.

Italy: “Today marks the end of an agonizing period of waiting,” says Family Minister
Following the discovery of the body, Eugenia Roccella released a statement thanking everyone who took part in the search efforts. “Today marks the end of an agonizing period of waiting. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all those who searched with humanity and dedication for my beloved Luigi until he was found,” she said.

The Italian minister extended special thanks to the Province of Viterbo, which coordinated the search operations, as well as to the Fire Brigade, the Police, the Carabinieri, the Financial Police, local authorities, and the residents of Ronciglione, whom she described as “one big family” to both herself and her husband. She also expressed gratitude to all those who stood by her during this difficult time, noting that while the discovery of her husband’s body does not ease the pain of loss, it does give her, their children, their relatives, and all who knew him the chance to say a proper farewell.
