Shocking new details are emerging in the case that has gripped the town of Mystras in Laconia, where a 55-year-old man allegedly concealed his 90-year-old father’s death, keeping the body in a freezer in the basement of an abandoned hotel he owns. According to information obtained by parapolitika.gr, the 55-year-old reportedly confessed to police that he took this action in order to continue collecting his father’s pension. He claimed that his father, who was born in 1936, died of natural causes approximately two to two-and-a-half years ago, with no criminal incident having taken place beforehand — at least according to his version of events.

Mystras: Missing from public life for at least four years
However, this claim is already the subject of intense scrutiny by authorities. According to information from parapolitika.gr, local residents have given testimony stating that the 90-year-old had disappeared from everyday life in Mystras at least four years ago — a fact that raises serious questions about when the elderly man actually died and whether the son’s account bears any resemblance to the truth.
Of particular interest are the initial assessments of the forensic examiner, who attended the scene immediately after the body was discovered inside the freezer of the abandoned hotel.
According to information obtained by parapolitika.gr, no visible injuries were found on the elderly man’s body during the initial on-site examination. However, this observation alone does not allow for any firm conclusions. The reason is that the body was in a state of complete freezing, making any reliable forensic assessment at the scene extremely difficult.
The same sources indicate that the forensic examiner is proceeding with considerable caution, as he believes only after the body has fully thawed and a full autopsy has been performed will it be possible to determine with certainty whether the 90-year-old did in fact die of natural causes, or whether findings will steer the investigation in an entirely different direction.
It is worth recalling that officers from the Sparta Criminal Investigation Division were led to the 55-year-old’s abandoned hotel in Mystras in the course of investigating the elderly man’s disappearance. During their search, conducted in the presence of a judicial officer, they discovered the body inside a freezer in the building’s basement. An air pistol was also seized at the scene.
The 55-year-old has been charged with making a false statement, ongoing fraud, and illegal possession of a firearm. Authorities are now awaiting the results of the forensic examination, which is expected to be the key to unlocking the mystery surrounding the 90-year-old’s death and clarifying exactly what happened in Mystras.
