An operation is currently underway to transfer a 25-year-old Italian from Calabria to the specialized infectious disease hospital “Spallanzani” in Rome. The young man is showing symptoms resembling those of hantavirus, prompting mobilization of health authorities.

The concern stems from the fact that the 25-year-old traveled on the same KLM flight with a woman from South Africa who contracted the virus and ultimately died.

According to the agency, the young man, who was already in quarantine, will be transferred to the hospital today and will undergo tests to determine if he is positive for the virus.
