Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated today that Western accusations against Moscow over its alleged involvement in the drone incident at Leipzig Airport in Germany amounted to “largely the beginning of a real war,” according to Russia’s state news agency TASS.
Lavrov: In essence, Germany is declaring war on us
“Leipzig, the airport. They found some drone. They said it was a Russian drone and nobody bothered to investigate it. In reality, this is, to a large extent, the beginning of a real war. They expelled the general consulate from Bonn and announced that they were terminating the agreement. The Russian House in Berlin is closing. I recall that before the start of World War II — or, more precisely, the Great Patriotic War — the Germans were also closing their diplomatic missions,” Lavrov said.
“All these statements by (Friedrich) Merz about making Germany once again the leading military power in Europe… are being put into practice. In essence, he is declaring war on us,” Lavrov said, referring to the German Chancellor.
It is worth recalling that Germany’s Interior Minister announced in early September that Russia was involved in an attempted drone attack against a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig Airport. At a joint press conference with Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul described the situation as a serious threat from Russia.
