French President Emmanuel Macron stated that yesterday’s attack on the San Antonio ship belonging to French shipping company CMA CGM in the Strait of Hormuz does not constitute an attack on France.
Macron: “Attack on CMA CGM ship does not constitute attack on France”
“The CMA CGM ship San Antonio was targeted in an attack yesterday while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in crew members being wounded and damage to the vessel,” the shipping company reported, adding that the injured have been transported to receive medical care. The Malta-flagged ship was not sailing under French flag and its crew was from the Philippines, Brezón noted, adding that France expresses its “solidarity” with those on board.
The ship was attacked one day after the launch of the so-called “Operation Freedom” by President Trump, aimed at helping ships navigate through the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Trump announced he was discontinuing the US military operation to escort ships through the vital strait, in an attempt to reach an agreement with Iran to end the war.
Iran refused to surrender control of the strait, using it as leverage in the conflict, which began with US-Israeli attacks against Iran in late February.
