Two people lost their lives when a small aircraft crashed into a hangar at Parafield Airport in Adelaide on Wednesday afternoon (local time), according to South Australia authorities.
The aircraft crashed within the airport facilities and immediately burst into flames, prompting a major emergency response. Police announced that the area was evacuated, while rescue forces worked to contain the fire and secure the area.

State Premier Peter Malinauskas stated in a post that “there are other injuries,” without clarifying the exact number or condition of those affected.
According to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the aircraft involved in the accident was a twin-engine Diamond DA42, which has capacity for up to four occupants. In its statement, Parafield Airport described a “serious incident” and emphasized its full cooperation with authorities in managing the crisis.
The hangar fire was brought under control hours later, while the airport remains closed. “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and all those affected by this tragic event,” Malinauskas stated.
Parafield is one of Australia’s busiest airports in terms of aircraft movements, primarily serving small aircraft and pilot training schools. It’s worth noting that a similar incident occurred in January, when a trainee pilot managed to escape unharmed after an aircraft crash and fire at the same location.
