Just before midnight, the two doctors — a married couple who operate the private clinic in Kolonaki where renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis reportedly died — were released from the Kypseli Police Station. Specifically, the two doctors were freed at approximately 11:40 p.m., after previously giving their statements to the authorities.

Preliminary investigation into the death of Giorgos Mazonakis still ongoing
As stated by Nikos Agapinos, defense attorney for one of the doctors, the case continues to be investigated as part of a preliminary inquiry. The results of the forensic medical examination are expected to be pivotal in determining the direction of the investigation.
Agapinos: “We are awaiting the forensic findings – respect the presumption of innocence”
Speaking outside the Kypseli Police Station, defense attorney Nikos Agapinos stressed the need to avoid any premature judgment before official findings are released: ”The doctors are already free to leave. They are simply waiting for the witness statements from both employees to be completed. A site inspection will also take place. What is most important, as I have already told you, is the forensic examination and its findings. Anyone who is rushing should not be — they must wait, especially in light of the presumption of innocence, which we must not only speak about but also uphold in practice. Just as no one can acquit someone prematurely, no one can incriminate people prematurely — especially people with distinguished scientific careers. Knowing these individuals personally, we are awaiting the forensic findings and we will be here every step of the way.“
”No connection between the medical procedure and the incident – equipment is fully licensed”
Commenting on the ongoing preliminary investigation, Mr. Agapinos emphasized that no criminal liability exists at this stage and provided details regarding the clinic’s operating status: ”A preliminary investigation is underway. The forensic examination will determine whether there is any connection between the death of the well-known artist and the specific medical procedure that was carried out. If no such connection exists — and our position is that there is absolutely no connection between the two — then there is no criminal liability whatsoever, nor anything further to investigate. The only doctor is the woman, an internist, who was treating the patient. For civil liability to be established, medical negligence must be proven — meaning that a medical procedure was performed incorrectly. As for the equipment, since certain public officials rushed to make statements, I can confirm that it has been duly registered with the Medical Association. Therefore, there is nothing hidden, nothing illegal. Everything has been done lawfully and this will be proven.” He also clarified that “this is not a company, but rather two co-located doctors who, beyond being a married couple, each operate their own independent practice.“
”The doctors are in shock – let’s not turn this into a spectacle”
Closing his statement, the attorney described the psychological state of his clients while calling for public restraint: “The doctors have been in shock from the very first moment, because it is not a pleasant thing for someone to die on your premises. That is a given. Beyond that, let us allow the process to move forward. I understand the public’s concern and I respect it, but let us not turn this into the Colosseum of Rome. Let us wait, and once we have seen the forensic findings, let everyone pass judgment. If there is liability, of course it must be attributed — but what if there isn’t?“
