MEP Nikos Papandreou addressed the death of beloved Greek singer Giorgos Mazwnakis and the exploitation of people’s desire to live longer by unscrupulous operators promising so-called “immortal water,” calling for supervision and licensing controls of wellness businesses at the European level.
“Our concern is protecting citizens from illegal and counterfeit medicines. From what we can see, the situation has gotten out of hand. It’s not just health medicines. It’s also wellness products, and on top of that, health procedures are being advertised,” the Greek MEP stressed, adding:
“And unfortunately, two weeks ago, a very beloved singer in Greece, Giorgos Mazwnakis, died at a wellness center. This raises many questions about oversight, licensing, and the scientific basis behind such offerings. As you and our political group have emphasized, the DSA — the Digital Services Act — is the framework that will help us implement change and put a stop to this harm.”
“We won’t stop people in their pursuit of longer lives, but we must ensure that this hope is not exploited against their own interests — with people being sold immortal water,” Nikos Papandreou concluded.
