Greece’s Health Minister, Adonis Georgiadis, has condemned incidents targeting Israeli nationals, urging Israeli citizens to continue visiting Greece. In a strongly worded statement, the minister declared that “Israel is Greece’s greatest ally — one that supports us in our efforts to prevent Turkey from acquiring the F-35s, that backs us on all issues relating to Cyprus and the Aegean, and that supports us through investments and the millions of tourists who, thankfully, are coming to Greece this summer and providing jobs for countless Greek citizens.”

Georgiadis: “Those behind the incidents are a sad, fringe minority”

In a video posted on X — subtitled in Hebrew — the Health Minister took a clear stance on the incidents targeting Israeli tourists. “We cannot expect logic or sensitivity from the ill-mannered — and I’ll leave it at that — elements of the far-left, who every August make it their top priority to hunt down Jewish people simply because they are Jewish,” he said.

“Nor can we expect them to understand that Israel is currently Greece’s greatest ally — supporting us in keeping Turkey from obtaining the F-35s, backing us on every issue concerning Cyprus and the Aegean, and contributing through investments and the millions of tourists who are, thankfully, visiting Greece this summer and creating employment for so many of our fellow citizens. None of this should be expected to be respected by people who neither love nor believe in Greece — because they are internationalists who do not believe in nations,” he added.

“The slogans they chant call for Israel to be wiped off the map. If they do indeed gather in Volos to block a cruise ship carrying Jewish tourists, I expect the public prosecutor to intervene under the relevant anti-racism law that has been passed,” he continued. “Do not be afraid to come to Greece. Those responsible for these incidents are a sad, fringe minority. There are thousands of Greeks who support and welcome Jewish visitors,” he concluded.
