New Democracy Secretary Konstantinos Kyranakis has sent a letter to party members, pledging that the party will leave no one unprotected in the face of threats and intimidation circulating on social media. The intervention comes in the wake of a deadly attack on New Democracy members that tragically claimed the life of Vagia Nestora. The party Secretary, who earlier in a television interview on SKAI denounced the spread of violent messages on social networks, announced that legal proceedings would be initiated against users who incite such acts.
Kyranakis: Legal action against online threats
In this context, Kyranakis has made clear to New Democracy members that the party will pursue legal action against internet users who threaten or incite violence on social media, using every lawful means available to protect its members and defend democratic dialogue.
To this end, members are urged to report to party headquarters on Pireos Street any comments or posts — whether from anonymous or named accounts — that go beyond political criticism or vigorous debate and instead contain threats, calls to action, or incitement to violence. Each incident will be assessed by New Democracy’s legal team, and wherever the legal conditions are met, immediate action will be taken using every appropriate legal remedy.
Finally, in the letter, the party Secretary reaffirms that New Democracy will stand by every one of its members, protecting the right of all citizens to participate in public discourse safely and without fear.
