US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has highlighted the historic ties between the United States and Greece, while outlining prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation in energy, defense, investment, and innovation — marking the occasion of America’s 250th anniversary of independence.
“For 250 years, Greece has been part of the American story. The ideals of ancient Athens inspired America’s founders as they dared to envision a new nation,” she said at a reception celebrating the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day, held at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in the presence of prominent political and business leaders.
She continued: “Fifty years later, American Philhellenes stood shoulder to shoulder with Greek revolutionaries in their own struggle for independence. In the difficult years following World War II, the Marshall Plan provided vital food, clothing, and medical supplies to the Greek people, while American Liberty Ships helped lay the foundation for Greece’s legendary shipping industry of today.”

“Today, the bond between our two nations is stronger than ever. From energy and defense to trade, investment, education, and culture, the United States and Greece are building a partnership with a shared vision for the future.
Together, we are advancing an open, dynamic investment environment that strengthens our economies, protects our supply chains, and creates opportunities for our people. We recently celebrated the doubling of a long-term agreement between Venture Global and Atlantic SEE LNG — a deal valued at an estimated $10 billion — that will deliver clean, reliable, and affordable American liquefied natural gas from the Gulf of America to Greece and, through the Vertical Corridor, to Central and Eastern Europe for twenty years. This is energy security in action.
At the same time, we are expanding our defense cooperation, deepening our industrial bases, and demonstrating once again that peace can only be preserved through strength. This year, we are proud to have announced Greece’s new strategic partnership with my home state of Florida through the US National Guard’s State Partnership Program. The State Partnership Program is one of America’s most successful security and cooperation initiatives. For decades, it has cultivated lasting relationships of trust between US states and partner nations. It is a whole-of-society partnership built for the long term,” she emphasized.
