Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held his first meeting with Péter Magyar following the latter’s election as Prime Minister of Hungary, on the sidelines of the European People’s Party (EPP) Summit. The meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Greek-Hungarian and broader EU-Hungarian relations.
More specifically, Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Thursday, on the sidelines of the EPP Summit, with Hungary’s new Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who succeeded Viktor Orbán in office. Also present at the meeting was Deputy Foreign Minister and Secretary of International Relations of New Democracy, Tasos Chatzivasileiou.
This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Magyar’s election in April, and also his first EPP Summit as head of government. The meeting was held in a warm and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the widely held view that Magyar is a far more pro-European politician than his predecessor Orbán, who repeatedly clashed with EU institutions and fellow European leaders over key European policy decisions.
