Irodou Attikou street has been closed since five o’clock in the morning, after a large tree fell approximately thirty meters from the Maximos Mansion — the official seat of the Greek Prime Minister — on the side facing the Zappeion.
Fortunately, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, at a time when no tourists or pedestrians were present in what is otherwise one of Athens’ busiest and most visited areas.
According to information reported by Orange Press, the tree was a mulberry, which fell onto a metal railing. Fire department crews and City of Athens municipal services are currently on the scene. The road remains closed from the junction of Mourouzi Street.
