A military doctor in Peristeri reportedly discovered through security camera footage that his estranged wife had been lacing his food and drinks with atropine — a finding that prompted him to file a police report. The case led to the arrest of the 41-year-old woman and both of her parents, aged 70 and 66. A syringe, gloves, and 10ml of atropine were found in her car. Authorities are now investigating the possibility that the man had been gradually poisoned over the course of several months.
Peristeri poisoning case: A dinner out and the video that raised suspicions
The couple has been separated since 2025 and shares a 3.5-year-old child. Last August, they agreed to have dinner together at a local restaurant. During the outing, the military doctor began feeling unwell and initially assumed the food was to blame. When he complained to the restaurant staff, they showed him footage from their security cameras.
According to his statement to police, the video showed his estranged wife dropping a substance into his water. Following the incident, he decided to install security cameras in his home, as the 41-year-old had made a duplicate key and was able to enter the property freely.
Atropine in the honey jar and the arrest
As reported by Mega TV, the home cameras allegedly captured the woman adding atropine to a jar of honey. Meanwhile, police sent a water bottle, three jars of pepper, and a packet of oats to the State General Chemical Laboratory to determine whether those items had also been contaminated.
Last Sunday, while he was at work, the doctor spotted the 41-year-old entering his home through his mobile phone — wearing a beanie hat, gloves, and glasses. He immediately alerted police and rushed back to his residence, where he initially gave chase himself.
Shortly afterward, officers arrested both the woman and her parents, who were allegedly waiting outside the building and acting as lookouts.
Trial set for October 26 — toxicology results still pending
The military doctor has undergone toxicology testing, the results of which have not yet been released. According to Mega TV, he told authorities that in recent months he had been experiencing a range of health issues, including dry mouth, altered taste, and an elevated heart rate — and that he reportedly required hospitalization at one point.
Investigators are examining whether these symptoms are linked to the alleged poisoning, as well as how the 41-year-old woman allegedly obtained the atropine.
The woman was released on bail following her arrest, and her trial has been scheduled for October 26. Restrictive conditions have been imposed on her to protect her estranged husband.
