Greece’s Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, made a pointed and unequivocal social media post late last night regarding the broader circumstances surrounding the shocking death of beloved and enormously popular singer Giorgos Mazonakis at the age of 54.
Georgiadis immediately called for and launched an investigation by the Athens Medical Association (AMA) into the so-called “clinic” where Giorgos Mazonakis suffered a cardiac arrest. According to well-informed sources at parapolitika.gr, the practice of internist H.T. has been licensed since 2013 as a co-located medical office alongside that of general practitioner I.G. However, this co-located practice has been advertising online services that go well beyond the scope of conventional medicine.
In his post, Adonis Georgiadis stated emphatically: “From initial reports, Giorgos Mazonakis suffered a cardiac arrest at an alleged clinic, during what is described as a plasmapheresis procedure. The exact cause of his death will naturally be determined by the forensic investigation, along with whether — and to whom — any liability applies. However, we are obliged to examine the precise circumstances of this incident. In reality, the license for that location covered only a simple general practice office, and procedures of this nature are not permitted to be carried out in a standard medical office. I have asked the President of the Athens Medical Association to immediately conduct the required inspection, as regulatory oversight of medical offices falls under the jurisdiction of local medical associations. The inspection process has already begun. In any case, I urge patients to exercise caution regarding what they read online and not to put their health at risk under dubious conditions. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and to his thousands of fans.”

Giorgos Mazonakis: “This is not medicine,” says leading hematologist about the stem cell “treatment”
Finally, one of the country’s leading hematologists working within Greece’s National Health System (NHS), who spoke with parapolitika.gr, explained that “CD34+ stem cells are nothing other than primitive hematopoietic stem cells, which are used exclusively in bone marrow transplantation. Beyond that application, we are not talking about medicine.”
The Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy issues a strong condemnation
For its part, the President of the Hellenic Society of Gene and Cell Therapies, Maya Roubalaki, also posted a strongly worded statement on social media late last night, which reads in part:
“In the wake of the deeply saddening death of Giorgos Mazonakis, and regardless of the exact cause and whether it is linked to any therapeutic procedure, a particularly serious issue comes back to the fore:
The application and promotion of therapeutic approaches without adequate scientific evidence for the specific indication.
The Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine has repeatedly taken a public stance on this matter — both through the seminar ‘Truths and Myths About Cell Therapies,’ held on April 27, 2026, aimed at providing the public with accurate information, and through official written interventions addressed to the relevant authorities regarding similar practices.”
