Shock and deep grief have gripped the island of Syros following the death of a 40-year-old woman, an employee of the Athens emergency medical service (EKAV), after a bloody incident involving a couple that took place on Thursday afternoon outside a residential property on the island.

How the fatal incident unfolded: the 40-year-old collapsed as she tried to flee
According to information from cyclades24.gr, at approximately 5:20 PM the 40-year-old woman approached a specific house, reportedly with her facial features concealed. After ringing the doorbell, a woman inside opened the door and a heated argument broke out between them. Moments later, the woman’s husband also appeared at the scene. During the confrontation and under circumstances that remain under investigation, the 40-year-old was stabbed in the back with a knife.
Following the stabbing, the 40-year-old reportedly attempted to flee the scene on foot. Sources indicate that the couple followed her into the street, while witnesses are said to have testified that objects were thrown at her during the incident. After covering a short distance, the woman collapsed. Emergency responders from EKAV arrived promptly and transported her to Syros General Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts to save her life, her death was confirmed.
Syros: Two detained as couple claims self-defense
Police authorities proceeded with the detention of the couple who were inside the residence, in order to establish the exact circumstances under which the violent incident unfolded. The couple was taken to the Syros Security Police headquarters and, according to information from cyclades24.gr, claim that the woman was carrying a knife and attempted to rob them, prompting them to act in self-defense. Their claims are currently being examined as part of the preliminary investigation.
