How the tragedy unfolded in Vrilissia
The incident took place at 27 Kyprou Street, where, according to police, shortly after 7:00 a.m., a 48-year-old woman tied her dog outside a bakery. The leash, however, appears not to have been properly secured, allowing the animal to break free and attack the 66-year-old man who was passing by with his small dog. The dog first attacked and mauled the smaller animal, then turned on the man. The 48-year-old woman was arrested and has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and animal cruelty.
“It got loose without us realizing”
“We heard screaming — I’m not sure exactly what happened. We came outside and saw a man on the ground trying to save his dog, and the owner was in shock trying to get her dog under control,” said a woman who witnessed the scene. The large dog “had been tied up, but without anyone noticing, it got loose.”
