A deceptive message has been circulating online, disguised as an official notification from Netflix, with the goal of trapping unsuspecting users by redirecting them to fraudulent websites. The message claims there is an issue with the user’s subscription payment and urges the recipient to follow a link to “update” their account information.
What Netflix subscribers need to watch out for
However, the link leads to a third-party website that can be used to steal personal or banking data. Experts advise users not to open suspicious links and not to enter their details on any website that does not belong to the official Netflix platform. If in doubt, users should always log into their account directly through the official Netflix app or website.
A sharp rise in online scams
Online scams in Greece are on the rise at an alarming rate, with recent data from authorities and security reports showing a staggering 210% surge in reported incidents. The rapid advancement of technology, the widespread use of Artificial Intelligence, and the digitization of everyday services have given cybercriminals powerful new tools that are increasingly convincing and difficult to detect. The Greek Cybercrime Division now receives more than 89,000 calls per year to its helpline 11188 — roughly 240 calls per day — while losses suffered by citizens from data theft and fake online shops amount to millions of euros annually.
