The local community of Aigio and the entire country remain shocked by the horrific case of the double murder of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son, who were found dead inside their home in Longos, in a blood-soaked scene. The prime suspect for the heinous act is the 65-year-old Italian partner of the woman, who requested a postponement to testify on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The incident was discovered on the morning of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, when the Italian informed an acquaintance, a resident of Aigio, and together they entered the house where they encountered the victims’ bodies. The mother, who had a long-term relationship with the 65-year-old, was found stabbed more than 20 times in the abdominal and thoracic area, also bearing defensive wounds on her hands and neck. Her son was found dead in a lateral position, with a flobert gun wound behind his right temple.
Double murder in Aigio: The 6-7 hour gap and the 54-year-old’s missing phone
Authorities determine that the murder took place around 3:00 AM on Tuesday, June 9, according to information provided by police correspondent Vassilis Lambropoulos. This means the perpetrator had enough time to eliminate any traces, arrange the scene, create an alibi, and hide the weapons. From the beginning, police authorities considered the 65-year-old Italian the main suspect, who continues to deny the charges and maintains he is not involved in the double crime that has shocked the Aigio region. Greek police forces continue relentlessly trying to piece together all the evidence to fill the gaps in the case that has caused tension and interest throughout the country in recent days. As Vassilis Lambropoulos revealed on LiveNews, Greek police clarify that the 54-year-old’s mobile phone has not been located. “The defendant’s legal representative mentioned that the phone was found destroyed, but police officers indicate that the phone has not been found anywhere. Only a small part of it has been found, a phone cover, which was carefully hidden on a shelf in the library behind the house’s books and was discovered during yesterday’s police search,” he reported.
Regarding the evidence authorities are still seeking, the police correspondent said: “Even if the main part is destroyed, who hid it and where is it located? This comes with a series of many questions that the Greek Police have about what exactly happened after the homicide and up to the point where the perpetrator says ‘I found the bodies, I found the corpses of the unfortunate people.’ The 6-7 hour gap is being examined, what were the perpetrator’s movements. Police officers, although the legal representative denies it, have a sense that there was an alcohol smell, probably spirits, at the scene. Evidence that there was a process of disinfection and cleaning of some traces with the logic that they saw this, as we said, small piece of clothing washed, but that there is an attempt to hide other clothes. Thus, they focus on the 65-year-old’s car for potentially finding more evidence. They’re searching to see the cleaning process. They haven’t found cleaning materials, some brooms, mops, some things related to disinfection processes inside the house, these haven’t been found. They’re searching to see what happened with the phone, they’re searching to see what happened with some clothes that the perpetrator possibly bloodied and which haven’t been found anywhere. However, they’re searching for something else: traces of blood or anything else inside the car. Police interest is transferred there and the car will be examined exhaustively to find blood stains or any other material. The Greek Police now has these means. And of course to find the phone, to find some evidence. Regarding the fingernails, the criminology laboratories haven’t given an answer yet, but it’s expected in the coming hours“.
Double murder in Aigio: The contradictions that “betrayed” the Italian and his composed demeanor
New findings from the authorities’ investigation contradict the 65-year-old Italian’s initial statements. One of the most notable elements is his suspiciously composed and expressionless attitude toward the shocking images of the victims, while his claims present significant gaps, such as continuously changing the time he claims to have woken up. Furthermore, authorities find it illogical that he didn’t notice the noisy and violent fight between the victims in the adjacent room – as he claimed, that they killed each other – given the apartment’s small size of only 88 square meters. Additionally, authorities focus on the Italian’s behavior during interrogations. While initially describing events in Greek with apparent ease, when questions became more thorough and difficult, he claimed not to understand the language and requested an interpreter. This sudden invocation of a language barrier appears to be, according to journalists’ assessments, his main strategy to justify the strong contradictions in his claims.
Beside the police officers examining the scene was the 65-year-old partner of the murdered woman. He was untroubled, composed and expressionless as described. “Throughout my stay at the scene, the 65-year-old was absolutely calm, expressionless and completely composed. From considering the evidence, no third party entered by force nor was anything stolen from the residence. This fact reveals that the two homicides were not committed with robbery as a motive.” “From the scene’s disruption, the defensive wounds showing struggle, the furniture breaking and the single gunshot, it’s proven that great noise was caused inside the residence during the homicides. We asked him if he has hearing problems or had taken medication and he said no. Asking him again how it’s possible he didn’t hear noise, he claimed he heard nothing. He maintained he had no relation to the homicide but believes his partner and her son killed each other without him realizing it.”
The pressing questions from police officers seem to have put the 65-year-old in a difficult position, who suddenly claimed not to know Greek well, despite living in Greece for more than 15 years. It’s characteristic that until that moment he was answering their questions fluently, but suddenly began claiming difficulty in understanding. Furthermore, he stopped all communication in Greek with the police officers, claiming he doesn’t know the language well enough and requested a translator’s help.
