The heating allowance that more than 1.2 million households will receive this year will be 30% higher than last year, with the benefit ranging from €130 to €1,560 depending on the region. Eligible recipients will also receive a larger advance payment in December.
At the same time, the government is announcing an additional subsidy on heating oil today, with the goal of bringing the price at its Thursday, October 15 launch to around €1.60 per litre or lower — provided that reports of a larger discount of €0.20 per litre from refineries are confirmed.
The increase in the allowance was pre-announced yesterday by Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis. Today, Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastaurou, and Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Thanos Petralias, are expected to detail the two-pronged intervention, while also announcing the level of the fuel subsidy for the second half of October.

Heating allowance: Minimum set at €130, maximum reaches €1,560
The minimum allowance rises from €100 to €130, while the standard upper limit increases from €800 to €1,040. The boost is even greater for settlements where low temperatures and specific climatic conditions drive up energy needs. The previous maximum of €1,000 rises to €1,300, while in areas with even greater heating requirements, the upper limit climbs from €1,200 to €1,560.
The final amount of the benefit is influenced by each region’s climate coefficient. In areas such as Elati, Papingo, and Kozani — where the climate coefficient is equal to or greater than 1 — a 25% supplement on top of the base amount applies. In even colder areas, such as Metsovo, Velouchi, Nymfaio, Nevrokopi, and Pertoli — where the coefficient reaches 1.2 or higher — an additional 25% supplement is applied.
Changes are also planned for the advance payment of the allowance. According to sources, applicants who submit their request by early December through the myHeating (myΘέρμανση) platform will receive an advance of approximately 80% of the benefit they received during the 2025–2026 winter season. For first-time beneficiaries, the advance payment increases from 50% to 65% of their entitled amount.
Heating allowance: When does the application platform open?
The myHeating platform, which will accept applications from eligible recipients, is expected to open in the first ten days of November, with the advance payment scheduled for disbursement by mid-December. Remaining payments will continue through to July 2027, depending on the type of fuel used and each household’s consumption.
The allowance covers those who use heating oil, blue kerosene, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), firewood, pellets, district heating, or electricity — provided they meet the required income and property eligibility criteria.
The increase in the allowance is not accompanied by any changes to income or property thresholds. Annual family income — both actual and imputed — must not exceed €16,000 for single individuals, €24,000 for married couples (with an additional €5,000 per child), and €29,000 for single-parent families (also with an additional €5,000 per child after the first).
For those engaged in business activity, the total gross income of the applicant, their spouse or civil partner, and dependent children must not exceed €80,000.
Regarding real estate assets, the total value must not exceed €200,000 for single, widowed, or separated individuals, and €260,000 for married couples, civil partners, and single-parent families. These limits increase by €40,000 for each dependent child.
