Construction material prices recorded a new increase of approximately 5% in August, according to official data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). The primary driver of price increases across all material categories was the significant rise in diesel fuel costs.

ELSTAT: The material categories with the largest price increases
More specifically, the steepest rise was recorded in diesel fuel at 23.2%, followed by bricks at 11.1% and copper pipes at 10.7%. Significant price increases were also recorded in ready-mix concrete (6.5%), mortar reinforcements (5.2%), plastic, synthetic and fiber-cement pipes (5.1%), aluminum window and door frames (4.9%), hardwood flooring (4.9%), cement (4.7%), floor and wall tiles (4.6%), reinforcing steel bars (3.8%), marble slabs (3.7%), plastic and acrylic paints (3.7%), and elevators (3.3%).
According to ELSTAT, the general price index for materials used in the construction of new residential buildings rose by 5% in August 2026 compared to August 2025 — marking double the growth rate of the 2.5% increase recorded between 2025 and 2024. On a monthly basis (August 2026 compared to July 2026), the index posted a marginal increase of 0.4%, compared to a 0.1% rise recorded during the same period the previous year.
