Patras becomes the first city to receive commercial deployment of Vodafone 5G+, Vodafone Greece’s 5G Standalone (5G SA) network technology, covering almost the entire city and offering premium connectivity experience with enhanced speeds, lower latency, improved battery life and greater reliability. Continuously investing in network evolution, the company will expand 5G+ coverage to Athens and Thessaloniki in the coming period, offering even more customers an improved network experience.
New generation of services with Vodafone 5G+

Specifically, already certified devices include Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra models, and Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi 15T and Xiaomi 15T Pro models. Vodafone Greece works closely with all leading manufacturers ensuring that more devices will soon gain access to Vodafone 5G+.
With the deployment of 5G Standalone technology, Vodafone Greece offers a new generation of services, paving the way for unique digital experiences and advanced enterprise applications.
Enhancing network efficiency with gradual 2G shutdown in 2029
Vodafone Greece will proceed with the gradual shutdown of its 2G network during the second half of 2029. The spectrum that will be freed up will be utilized for further development of 4G and 5G SA networks and optimal customer experience.
Through this transition, a cycle that began in 1992 with one of the first two mobile network development licenses in Greece is completed, continuing on July 1, 1993, when Vodafone’s (formerly Panafon) 2G network was launched. The shutdown of Vodafone’s 2G network marks the country’s digital leap in mobile communications, paving the way for faster, smarter and more reliable networks.
