The transformation of DEH from an energy production company to a clean energy and technology company today, and subsequently adopting Artificial Intelligence and entering the data center sector, was described by DEH’s Chairman and CEO and Eurelectric Vice-President George Stassis, speaking today at the European organization’s annual conference taking place in Helsinki. “DEH was an electricity company. Today it is a clean technology company. Tomorrow DEH will be a data center company, perhaps an Artificial Intelligence applications company,” he stated.
Mr. Stassis emphasized that the energy and digital transition are happening simultaneously today and reiterated the need for data center infrastructure requiring large amounts of energy to be developed in a way that will not burden household electricity bills due to increased demand.
DEH: Developing Artificial Intelligence applications across all sectors
He noted that DEH has already adopted cloud computing solutions for storing its data and is gradually advancing in developing Artificial Intelligence applications across all sectors where it operates.
Indicatively, Artificial Intelligence tools are being applied in areas such as integrating Renewable Energy Sources into the market, facility maintenance, energy management, and reducing energy losses. He also spoke about developing Artificial Intelligence applications in collaboration with the shipping industry and DEH’s legal department.
“We are at the intersection between energy and technology and we feel we are getting closer and closer to the technology space,” he said.
The DEH chief highlighted the need for developing data centers in Europe for security reasons regarding where data is stored and emphasized that the EU has a great opportunity to create value from new technology, but doesn’t have much time to do it.
