Lawrence “Larry” Summers, former US Treasury Secretary under President Bill Clinton and later president of Harvard University in the 2000s, announced on Monday, November 17th, his decision to withdraw from public life after his email correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein came to light. Epstein was a well-connected financier in high society who was simultaneously a sexual predator targeting primarily underage girls.

“I take full responsibility for the reckless decision I made to continue communicating” with Jeffrey Epstein, Larry Summers noted in his statement. “While I will continue to fulfill my obligations as an educator” (he teaches economics, public administration, and business management at Harvard), he continued, “I will withdraw from my commitments for public appearances as part of a broader effort aimed at restoring trust and repairing my relationships with people close to me.”
