Guilty on appeal, the parents from Leros, aged 57 and 52 years old, who sexually abused their three children. The Court of Appeals upheld the first-instance sentences, imposing on the father 24 years imprisonment (20 years to be served) and on the mother 13 years imprisonment (8 years to be served).
The two defendants had been found guilty of child seduction, abuse involving indecency, incest between relatives, and complicity in acts of abuse that were committed continuously against their children.
The first-instance court had recognized the mother’s mitigating factor of previous lawful conduct, something that did not apply to the father. The Court of Appeals did not recognize additional mitigating factors, maintaining the same sentences.
Leros: What the case file reveals about the parents and their children
According to the case file, the parents, who lived with their two minor children and their adult son with mental disability, committed repeated indecent acts against all three children from 2015 to 2018. The father initially confessed to his acts during the preliminary investigation but later retracted, claiming pressure from authorities.
The mother, in her defense, admitted to one act against her daughter, claiming she acted under fear of her husband. However, the court rejected this claim, deeming it unreliable, as it was proven that in some cases she acted alone.
The case, which had caused shock nationwide, concluded with the confirmation of the sentences and the affirmation of the parents’ guilt for one of the most severe crimes of domestic abuse recorded in the country.
