Papastaurou on water shortage and increases in EYDAP tariffs
As the Environment and Energy Minister initially stated speaking to SKAI: “The fact that water is a public good doesn’t mean we treat it carelessly. The country has 50% water loss. This must change“.
He added that: “There are two sets of measures. One concerns the long-term, which every generation undertakes, carrying a project for the next 20 – 30 years. Yliki, Marathon and Evinos. Now, it’s Evrytos. However, we don’t rely solely on these. There are also short-term measures“.
Finally, when asked whether there will be increases in EYDAP bills, he answered that “we shouldn’t rush. The tariffs are set by the Regulatory Authority (i.e. for Waste, Energy and Water), in a scientific manner. EYDAP has submitted the data, it’s a decision of the independent regulator. I stand by what Mr. Sachinis said about cheaper and better quality water“.
