Timeline of the Chania murder
On Sunday afternoon October 26, shortly after 6:00 PM, in the village of Elos in Kissamos, locals were celebrating at a festival accompanied by the music of a well-known Cretan lyra player. There, while the victim was enjoying himself with his group, he was suddenly attacked by the young perpetrator, who shot him with 3 bullets near the chest at close range.
The 52-year-old fell bloodied to the ground, while the 23-year-old immediately fled. Authorities rushed to the scene, with the ambulance from Kissamos Health Center picking up the 52-year-old, severely wounded, and transporting him to Chania Hospital, where doctors could only confirm his death.
The 23-year-old was quickly identified by police authorities, who have launched a manhunt aimed at his immediate capture.
The village was flooded with police forces who cordoned off the area and immediately began seeking witness testimonies and searching the square. During the investigation, one shell casing and another cartridge were found, which police appear to link to the perpetrator.
It is noteworthy that the chestnut festival had a large attendance, as until just a short time earlier the village square was bustling with people, local government members, parliament members, visitors and small children, who had come to spend a pleasant afternoon.
