The new winter schedule for the dual-zone electricity tariff comes into effect from November 1st, 2025, offering significant savings opportunities on electricity bills. The Ministry of Environment and Energy along with DEDDIE announced the new time slots when consumers can most economically use their electrical appliances.
Electricity: Time zones with reduced charges
The new system provides different hours depending on the season, giving more savings options. During the winter period from November to March, the midday zone extends from 12:00 to 15:00, while the night zone lasts from 02:00 to 05:00.
Similarly, during the summer period from April to October, the midday zone applies from 11:00 to 15:00 and the night zone from 02:00 to 04:00. These specific hours apply daily, all days of the week without exceptions.
How to check your enrollment in the dual-zone system
From February 1st, 2025, consumers can confirm their participation in the new reduced tariff system through DEDDIE’s digital platform. The process is simple and requires only entering the supply number to display the relevant notification message.
The system will display a message such as: “Based on your Supply Number, you are already participating in the Dual-Zone Reduced Tariff System from 01/02/2025. No action is required from you.” For additional information or questions, interested parties can use the “Dual-Zone Reduced Tariff Issues” category on the platform or call toll-free at 800 400 4000.
Legislative framework and implementation
The Joint Ministerial Decision YPEN/GDE/11742/460 published in Government Gazette B’ 295/31.01.2025 establishes the complete operational framework for the new system. The decision defines the reduced tariff time periods, sets DEDDIE’s obligations, and clarifies the rights of suppliers and consumers.
DEDDIE has completed all technical preparations for a smooth transition to the new system, ensuring there will be no additional burden on consumers.
Changes for consumers and meters
Smart meter owners are automatically enrolled in the new schedule without requiring any action on their part. In contrast, conventional meter owners will receive notification from their supplier and have the option to submit a change request at no additional cost.
Existing electricity contracts remain in effect, automatically incorporating the new schedule. Meanwhile, consumers retain the right to terminate their contract within three months without financial consequences.
When it pays to use electrical appliances
The extension of reduced tariff hours, particularly in the midday zone, provides new savings opportunities. Consumers can now schedule the operation of washing machines, water heaters, cooking, or electric vehicle charging during lower-price hours.
This strategic use of electricity not only reduces monthly bills but also contributes to better energy utilization at the national level, supporting the system’s energy efficiency.
