The presidents of Egypt Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and the USA Donald Trump will co-chair a “peace summit” on Monday in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, with “leaders of more than 20 countries” in attendance, the Egyptian presidency announced Saturday evening in a press release. “The summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts to restore peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new page of regional security and stability,” the announcement states, published on the second day of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.
Mitsotakis and Christodoulides will participate
Greece and Cyprus are among the countries that US President Donald Trump invited to the Gaza conference. This means that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides have been invited by Donald Trump, as the invitations are addressed to the leaders of these countries. According to Axios, the US State Department issued an official invitation for the Gaza leaders’ summit, which will be held on Monday in Sharm El Sheikh. The US has significantly expanded the list of invitees, adding Spain, Japan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Hungary, India, El Salvador, Cyprus, Greece, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Canada.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also participate on Monday in Egypt at the international conference for peace in the Gaza Strip. Mr. Guterres “will go to Egypt to participate on Monday in the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit,” the source said, clarifying that he plans to return to UN headquarters on Wednesday. French President Emmanuel Macron also confirmed his trip to Egypt on Monday to emphasize his “support for the implementation of the agreement presented by Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Gaza” between Israel and Hamas, as announced today by the Élysée.
Macron and Starmer present in Egypt
Macron will discuss, on this occasion, “with his partners about the next stages of implementing the peace plan,” the French presidency explained, without clarifying whether he will meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump, who also plans to travel to Egypt. The plan, which was drafted by Trump with mediation from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, aims to establish a permanent ceasefire, release all hostages, and restore full access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, the French presidency announced. Macron will also reiterate France’s commitment to the two-state solution as the basis for lasting peace, security, and reconstruction in the region, according to the Élysée Palace.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will also participate on Monday in Egypt at the “Middle East peace summit.” “The Prime Minister will travel to Egypt for the Sharm el-Sheikh summit on Monday” and will “attend the signing ceremony of the Gaza peace plan, which represents a historic turning point for the region after two years of war and bloodshed,” according to an announcement from Mr. Starmer’s office at 10 Downing Street.
