The words of Marianna, sister of the murdered Garyfallia, who was beaten to death by her partner in Patras in November 2024, are deeply moving. It’s worth noting that he was convicted for the murder yesterday (10/10) and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Speaking to ERTNews, Marianna described with profound emotion and dignity her family’s pain after the murder in Patras, conveying the message her sister left behind: “No woman is alone and that society is now ready to listen.”

“There are now organizations, there are ears, there are social groups that every abused woman can turn to. Life has value and every woman must remember this,” Marianna emphasized meaningfully.
Particularly emotional was the moment she referred to the unfair accusations heard about her sister: “We heard yesterday that my sister was immoral… These words deeply hurt and affected our mother’s health. Garyfallia was a giving and good child. No one has the right to tarnish her memory.”

Garyfallia’s sister also spoke about the perpetrator’s attitude, saying he didn’t have the decency to ask for forgiveness, nor even to look the family in the eyes.
Despite the loss, she emphasized that they feel some vindication: “Garyfallia won’t come back. But she left behind a message: Every woman who is abused must speak up. She must know that there is hope, there is support. All women must speak up.”
And she concluded: “Not everything is justified in the name of love. Love has no darkness – love has only light.”
It should be noted that the trial for the case took place yesterday Friday, with the defense asking that two mitigating factors be taken into account for the victim’s former partner: his previous clean record and remorse. The court rejected them.
The prosecutor recommended a 15-year prison sentence, however the court sentenced him to 18 years in prison.
