Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated today that Ankara will closely monitor the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and will continue to contribute to the process, while simultaneously pursuing efforts toward establishing a Palestinian state. Specifically, in a post on X, Erdogan thanks United States President Donald Trump, “who demonstrated the necessary political will to encourage the Israeli government toward achieving the ceasefire,” as well as Qatar and Egypt. Israel’s role in the process is not mentioned in the Turkish president’s post.
“I am very satisfied that the negotiations between Hamas and Israel, conducted in Sharm el-Sheikh and to which Turkey also contributed, resulted in a ceasefire in Gaza. I want to express my gratitude, particularly to American President Trump, (…) as well as to our sister countries, Qatar and Egypt,” the Turkish head of state declared via X.
