Just a short time after the death of the 28-year-old in Arta, with the black veil spreading across the local community and health institutions nationwide, a new incident at Attikon hospital is once again causing alarm. The mother of the 22-year-old who suffered allergic shock in Haidari spoke to MEGA and confirmed that the case has proceeded to the Justice system. Additionally, the father of the 22-year-old, to whom two nurses allegedly administered the wrong antibiotic, filed a lawsuit and the healthcare workers involved were arrested.

The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, October 5th. The nurses administered a medication used for treating fungal infections. According to reports, the medication was intended for another patient. The 22-year-old suffered allergic shock, however the reaction of nurses and doctors was, as emphasized, crucial. Meanwhile, in the Arta case as well, all nurses and doctors reportedly reacted swiftly with the 28-year-old.
22-year-old’s allergic shock: They confirmed the correct surname but gave the wrong medication
The mother’s description of the 22-year-old to MEGA is revealing of what transpired at Attikon hospital. She said she was present when the antibiotic was given by the 48-year-old nurse and the 55-year-old and described: “The girl was hospitalized and hadn’t received antibiotics for three days, and suddenly she comes and administers antibiotics. I ask why the antibiotic is being given. She says, ‘aren’t you (22-year-old’s surname)?’. I say ‘yes’. ‘Then,’ she tells me, ‘the antibiotic is for you’ and continues to administer it. And I tell her, ‘she’s allergic, the child is allergic,’ I tell her”.
The mother said the family has hired a lawyer and the matter has proceeded to the Justice system, while her daughter reportedly recovered after the incident in the Short Stay Unit. She then described the reactions in the 22-year-old’s body from the medication that likely should have been given to another patient. The speed with which the doctors acted was also emphasized: “As soon as she leaves, the child sits up and starts having an allergic reaction. I run immediately, call her and tell her: ‘come remove it, she’s having an allergic reaction’. Difficulty breathing, redness, she turned completely red, coughing and then turned blue. She recovered immediately because the doctors came right away and administered what they needed to give her”.
Michalis Giannakos, president of POEDIN, stated: “They notified the doctors and the allergic reaction was immediately treated and the patient is in good health”.
Attikon hospital’s position
The hospital administration has already admitted that medication was administered without medical indication to the 22-year-old. Indeed, it has already ordered a sworn administrative investigation.
“On Sunday, October 5, 2025 at approximately 9:00 PM, pharmaceutical treatment was administered without medical indication to a patient at our hospital, and the patient presented an allergic reaction, which was addressed immediately, successfully and without any impact on her health. For this incident, the Administration has already ordered the conduct of an administrative investigation to examine the circumstances of the incident,” states the hospital’s announcement.
The two nurses were arrested for negligent bodily harm following a lawsuit filed by the 22-year-old’s father. “The police came, took the two nurses and they were released after their testimonies,” said Mr. Giannakos.
There were 15 patients in the short-stay ward, while the two nurses were the only ones on shift. The administrative investigation will clarify the cause of the file mix-up, namely the error that led the 22-year-old -who was expected to be discharged from the hospital on the evening of Tuesday, October 7- to allergic shock. The case will not end with the administrative investigation, as the family’s lawsuit will remain pending.
