A drone attack on an industrial facility in Tyumen, Siberia occurred last night, Monday, according to local authorities today. This marks the first time such an attack has occurred in this city, which is located more than 1,800 kilometers from Ukraine. In a statement on the Telegram app, Russian regional authorities said three unmanned aircraft were “detected and neutralized” within the perimeter of a company in the Antipino district, on the eastern side of Tyumen.
Drone attack in Siberia: Escalation of Russia-Ukraine confrontation
The authorities did not clarify the origin of the unmanned aircraft and Ukraine has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. According to local media, a major oil refinery was targeted.
Regional authorities announced that rescue services that rushed to the scene prevented the “explosion” of the unmanned aircraft, but local media outlet MegaTioumen, citing an eyewitness, reported that a cooling structure was damaged at the refinery.
The Tyumen region, rich in hydrocarbons, is located more than 1,800 km in a straight line from the Ukrainian border. This is the first unmanned aircraft attack reported in this territory since Russia’s large-scale offensive against Ukraine began in February 2022.
In recent months, in response to massive Russian bombardments of its territory, Ukraine has carried out multiple strikes on oil refineries in Russia, leading to increased gasoline prices.
In June, the Ukrainian military had also struck Russian air bases far from the front, in Siberia and the Arctic, with unmanned aircraft that secretly entered Russia.
