An impressive welcome, as already evident from the snapshots that photographers are capturing in the arrivals hall of “El. Venizelos,” is taking place for the 27 Greek activists who were on the flotilla vessels that were attacked by Israeli ships outside Gaza while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid. All 171 activists were scheduled to be deported one day later, on Tuesday, October 7th, however the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced their deportation the day before. The flight to Athens from Israel departed with delays and arrived 45 minutes after the scheduled time.
The flight carried a total of 161 people, including Greta Thunberg, who will subsequently take another flight, along with other activists from Italy, France and other European countries. The deportees are citizens of Greece, Italy, France, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Austria, Luxembourg, Finland, Denmark, Slovakia, Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Serbia.
