The Alternative for Germany (AfD) emerges first with 26% according to a new INSA Institute poll for Bild am Sonntag, two points ahead of the Christian Union (CDU/CSU), which records its lowest percentage in the last six months at 24%. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) follows with 14% (-1), while the Left Party shows growth at 12%, displacing the Greens at 11%.
Germany: SPD and Greens: Can they save the governing coalition?
With these results, the current governing coalition CDU/CSU-SPD would gather only 38%, the lowest percentage since taking office last May and seven points below the federal elections in February. The only realistic alternative cooperation, excluding the AfD, would be a three-way partnership: CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens with a combined total of 49%.
