The governor posted a photo of a burned railway car and reported that rescuers and medical personnel are operating at the attack site. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who published video and statements on X, “all emergency services are already at the scene and have begun helping people.” Zelensky reported that “all information about the injured is being verified” and that so far we know of at least 30 victims. Preliminary reports indicate that both Ukrzaliznytsia personnel and passengers were found at the scene.
Meanwhile, there has been an intense escalation of Russian airstrikes against Ukraine’s railway infrastructure: according to reports, Moscow has been hitting railway facilities almost daily over the past two months.
President Zelensky condemned the attack as a “barbaric Russian attack” and emphasized that “the Russians cannot claim they didn’t know they were hitting civilians.” He added that such actions constitute terrorism and called on the international community to turn rhetorical “decisive statements” into action to stop the bloodshed and terror.
