The sharp statements made by Laura Kövesi during yesterday’s press conference were commented on by the president of the “Tempe Association 2023” Maria Karystianou, who characteristically said she felt “ashamed that a European official comes to tell us that our country protects crime committed by politicians.”
“Article 86 is a problem, we have identified it ourselves. It is something that protects politicians, even in cases of felonies. Therefore, we heard from the European Prosecutor identifying the problem again, saying it protects crime. Article 86 doesn’t allow her to investigate and prosecute. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is an institution above national laws, which I believe means it will be able to do its job,” added Maria Karystianou.

Karystianou on Plakias: Investigation report reveals unknown flammable substance
With Laura Kövesi stating that “if there is information about smuggling, anyone can send it to us,” Nikos Plakias commented that “everything Kövesi said we already knew. What we didn’t know is that NOT ONE person was found to take the evidence he insisted he had for two and a half years to Kövesi.” “Perhaps Mr. Plakias is not aware of the investigation report. We should send it to him to read. The report states there was an unknown flammable substance,” said Maria Karystianou.
Karystianou on Panos Routsis: Exhumation rights are inalienable
Referring to the hunger strike of Panos Routsis, who has requested the exhumation of his son Denis for identification and toxicological examinations, Ms. Karystianou said:
“Nineteen days have passed and there is a man outside Parliament on hunger strike for the inalienable right of exhumation. I want to say that the right to exhumation is a right every person has, especially every parent toward their child. Can you imagine a parent being forbidden to have tests done on their child? Our child is dead, but remains our child.” As she stated, by not allowing toxicological examinations, the state admits its guilt, while emphasizing that if the body bags are opened only for DNA, important evidence will be significantly compromised.
Karystianou: “There is nothing in the indictment about the explosion”
“The crime of ignition and fire does not currently exist in the case file. No guilty party, no investigation, nothing. Twenty-seven people, according to forensic doctors, were burned alive.”
“If anyone is interested in punishing those guilty for the death of our children, it’s the families. My daughter was burned alive and there is nothing in the indictment about the explosion and fire.”
“I hope and pray something clean and new emerges to change the country’s image, our lives, and that all those who torment and mistreat us go to prison. This is my daily prayer. Catharsis can come through society. The system cannot cleanse itself,” she said.
