Sunday night turned into a nightmare for a 56-year-old jewelry store owner in Rhodes when he was confronted by two masked attackers who assaulted him. As he describes to Live News: “I called the ambulance saying ‘come quickly, I’m going to die’. I thought I had internal bleeding. Blood was coming from my ears, from my nose. I called my daughter, my son, telling them I was going to die.”
Rhodes: How the attack unfolded
The perpetrators wore silicone masks and delivered dozens of blows: 50 punches and 15 kicks, while placing a towel over his face, causing suffocation. The second robber removed high-value jewelry that, according to the owner, exceeds half a million euros.
“They’re worth 800,000 – 900,000 euros. They destroyed me. They told me ‘you’re insured, don’t worry’ and I said I’m uninsured, but please leave me alive. They destroyed me, it’s over, there’s nothing left,” he said characteristically.
Rhodes: Immediate response and investigation
Bloodied, the jeweler called for help and was transported to Rhodes Hospital, where he received medical care. He describes:
“I’m in terrible shape. Here on my neck, they had grabbed me here to strangle me. At the hospital I told them to put something in my IV otherwise I couldn’t sleep. My eyes wouldn’t open yesterday, I was afraid I might have internal bleeding and die.”
He emphasizes that the perpetrators wore masks and he couldn’t identify their faces, while Rhodes Security has begun investigations and is collecting material from security cameras in the area. So far, no traces of the robbers have been found.
