Police from various departments have focused their attention on the weapons cache and armory that a 46-year-old man had set up in his home storage room, who was arrested in Sifnos following extensive investigations. The Kalashnikov rifle he possessed was equipped with a high-precision scope and silencer, while police discovered a massive amount of cash on his workbench. According to initial reports, this individual is believed to have been manufacturing or modifying weapons. The 252,480 euros found in the 46-year-old’s possession cannot be justified by current investigations, and authorities are examining the possibility that it represents payments from illegal arms trafficking. Authorities are scrutinizing the 46-year-old’s background, investigating whether he had contacts with criminals or terrorists, whether he had developed illegal activities, or if he was limited to assembling and manufacturing weapon parts and generally supplying arms to interested parties.
Sifnos: 46-year-old suspect not cooperating with authorities
Among the findings at his home, police confiscated a revolver, a pen-type pistol, four hunting rifles, three air guns (pistol – revolver – rifle), 494 military-type cartridges, 446 firearm cartridges, 20 hunting cartridges, 9 knives of various types with blades ranging from 15 to 58 centimeters, 2 bayonets, two silencers, various assault rifle parts including grips, stocks, flashlights, lasers, and other accessories, as well as a baton.
The 46-year-old man is not cooperating with authorities and claims he possessed them for personal use. However, the dozens of tools found in his storage room and some specialized machinery lead police to conclude that this individual certainly plays a role in arms trafficking. Mobile phones and other electronic devices have been sent to forensic laboratories for analysis to recover deleted conversations and calls, while the weapons were transferred to specialized Hellenic Police laboratories for ballistic testing. What police want to determine is whether the weapons have been modified and, of course, whether they have been used in illegal activities.
The accused was brought before the competent prosecutor in Syros charged with violations of the “Weapons Law,” while investigations continue into the origin of the large sum of money found hidden in a safe in his home.
