“Through actions, we strengthen citizens’ disposable income, we give raises, reduce taxes, return rent payments, control the market, and do everything to improve citizens’ quality of life,” stated Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, speaking this morning on ANT1. Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that “the biggest inflation problem relates to housing and energy” and noted that “rent expenses are reduced by 8%, as the state returns one month’s rent starting in November, and the Prime Minister himself intervened on energy prices.”

Takis Theodorikakos: We don’t just increase wages, we control the market
“We don’t just increase wages, we control the market. DIMEA is conducting inspections at all supermarkets regarding the code of ethics,” continued the Development Minister, emphasizing that “if there are violations – and we have strong indications that there are – we will exhaust our strictness. Fines will be announced immediately. The law applies to everyone.”
“Representatives of supermarkets and the food industry committed to reducing prices on 1,000 product codes and they must do it. Businesses must show their responsibility in practice,” Mr. Theodorikakos stressed, adding: “They have the responsibility to reduce prices on as many products as possible and they have the ability to do so, as transaction volumes continue to increase. In a 12 billion euro market, it’s not possible for someone to earn 1.5% given that there are legal ways to increase profits.”
When asked about the new Independent Market Supervision and Consumer Protection Authority, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized: “We are creating the new Independent Authority, uniting all mechanisms to be effective so citizens can turn to one point.” In this context, he spoke of “interests that are concerned this won’t happen, as it will close loopholes and windows” and called on all political forces to support the reform. “Contrary to the toxic climate prevailing in the country, here is a bright field of glory for everyone to contribute to the reform,” he said characteristically.
Regarding old development laws, Mr. Theodorikakos said that “73 million euros have been recovered so far from investments that weren’t made, we don’t leave a single euro, it’s an initiative of transparency and accountability, the opposition should support it.” “We give raises, reduce taxes, return rent payments, intervene in energy, and control the market. We care through actions for those in need, while some cry all day with words,” the Development Minister concluded.
