Turkey’s Transport Minister was fined for speeding after posting a video showing him driving at 225 km/h on a highway, nearly double the legal speed limit. The incident sparked critical comments on social media, which subsequently forced the minister to issue a public apology.
The video, featuring popular music and excerpts from President Tayyip Erdogan’s speech praising government infrastructure, shows Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu’s speedometer “taking off” as his car overtakes others in the fast lane on the Ankara-Niğde highway.

Traffic police later issued him a fine of nearly 240 euros for violating the speed limit by approximately 50 kilometers outside the capital Ankara.
Facing backlash, Uraloğlu posted a photo of the citation on platform X writing: “Apologies to the nation.”
The maximum speed limit on Turkish highways is 140 km/h. Last year, 6,351 people died in approximately 1.5 million traffic accidents, according to official data.
