The Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) is unveiling the people who will stand alongside Alexis Tsipras on the road to the ballot box. These are the 400+1 members who make up the National Council of ELAS, each bringing distinct professional, academic, and social backgrounds.
As senior party figures from the Amalias Street headquarters put it: “This new political endeavor must be built from society and speak to society. It must give space and voice to people who know firsthand the challenges of everyday life, work, production, science, and social engagement. This is not a traditional party structure that reproduces closed mechanisms and old hierarchies. It is an open field of participation, where people with different experiences and starting points come together with a shared goal: to contribute to shaping a new political vision for the country.”
The National Council brings together students and young scientists, workers and professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs, economists, trade unionists, local government officials, healthcare workers, educators, artists, and athletes, as well as active citizens engaged in their local communities. These are people who understand the country’s problems — but also its potential. They are called upon to channel their experience into crafting political solutions with a social dimension. Youth participation is a central pillar of this initiative. Students, young scientists, and members of the educational community are actively involved in a project that seeks to bridge experience with fresh ideas, and today’s needs with tomorrow’s aspirations.

Tsipras’s associates emphasize that “ELAS seeks to build a new relationship of trust with citizens — one based on participation, open processes, and collective effort toward a country with greater justice, dignity, and prospects.
