Antonis Samaras’s heartbreaking post about his daughter, Lena
“The most difficult moment is saying goodbye to someone you loved so much.
The most unnatural moment is saying goodbye to someone who is your own child.
But we are not saying goodbye to our Lena today, neither Georgia, nor Kostas, nor her grandmother, nor I.
We will be with her always.
Beside her light.
Beside her smile.
Beside her humility which -when needed- became Greek nobility.
Beside those bright, blue eyes of hers, a piece of brilliance from Greece and love that she shared generously.
Beside her kindness, which offered peace, care and courage.
Beside her “I love you.”
Beside her “take care, dad.”
Beside this silent but precious, authentically pure and genuine radiance of love that she offered you, without expecting anything in return.
What can a father say when he loses his child?
What can a mother say when she will never again embrace her heart?
What can a brother say when he loses his other half, when his soul loses its most faithful companion?
What can I say as a father, about this breath of love that filled our lives, about this secret aura of Lena’s kindness, which moved so many with her loss, for which we are so grateful?
Lena believed deeply in goodness and in God. She shined when she gave.
That’s why I thank God who gave us this gift, even if only for 34 years…
Have a good journey, my little Lena!”
