Compensation totaling 12 million euros is provided by the new ministerial decision, signed by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Athanasios Petralia, for farmers in the Regional Units of Karditsa, Larissa, Magnesia, Trikala and Phthiotis, who saw their fields flooded and covered with sediments from storms Daniel and Elias in September 2023.
The decision exclusively concerns agricultural plots that were declared in the 2024 Single Payment Application as “flooded with sediments” and had also been declared in the corresponding 2023 application, in order to cross-check data and ensure eligibility.
Compensation farmers will receive from Thessaly-Phthiotis per acre for storms Daniel and Elias

The support is paid by OPEKEPE, which will notify beneficiaries electronically. A prerequisite for payment is the submission of a statutory declaration within 5 working days of notification.
This new intervention essentially comes to support those affected in the primary sector, at a time when the consequences of the climate crisis are being felt with particular intensity in rural areas.
