A letter from Athens Mayor Haris Doukas to Spyros Chrysanthopoulos, President of Athens Metro S.A., is raising fresh concerns on top of already existing worries regarding Metro Line 4 and the structural damage it is causing to buildings — particularly in the Kypseli neighborhood. The specific issue troubling the Mayor of Athens, which is also addressed in the letter to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiаos, is the reported flooding of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs building located at the corner of Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and Akadimias Street — an incident serious enough to necessitate the building’s evacuation. In his letter, published on Tuesday, October 27, Doukas demands to know the cause of the flooding, which reportedly occurred several weeks ago.

Mayor Haris Doukas opened his letter by stating: “I am contacting you with great concern following today’s (note: October 27) newspaper reports, which reference problems at a public building on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, believed to have been caused by Metro Line 4 construction works.” He further stressed the need to investigate this incident in connection with events in Kypseli, where multiple buildings have reportedly sustained damage attributed to ongoing construction. He concluded: “In light of the very serious problems that have already emerged in the Kypseli area, I urge that we receive full and immediate updates regarding these developments and the findings of any technical inspections that have been carried out.”
