Kapodistrias is a historical film set in the early 19th century, based on the true story of Greece’s greatest statesman and first Governor, Ioannis Kapodistrias, following the country’s liberation from Ottoman rule. Kapodistrias defends human freedom with courage, compassion, and dignity — sacrificing even the great love of his life — while fearlessly confronting the forces of evil, giving up wealth, glory, and international recognition. When Greece finally gains its independence, he is called upon to serve as its first Governor. Though he senses he will be assassinated, he accepts his fate without complaint and lays down his life in devoted service to his homeland. It is this ultimate sacrifice that leads him to true freedom.
With Kapodistrias, Nova continues its longstanding commitment to the Greek film industry — spanning more than 20 years, over 150 co-produced feature films, and tens of millions of euros invested in domestic productions.
