The search operation in the rubble of the building that collapsed following a powerful explosion on Lysikratous Street, in the Plaka district of Athens, on the morning of Friday, September 25, has come to a tragic end, as the bodies of all six missing persons have now been recovered.
Plaka: Two siblings and their spouses visiting Athens together
Among the victims are two siblings of Albanian descent holding American citizenship — Florin Hoxha and Florida Hoxha — along with their respective spouses, who had traveled together to Athens and were staying in a short-term rental apartment on the first floor of the building. According to information reported by Albanian broadcaster Top Channel, the victims have been identified as Florin Hoxha and his wife, Eris Cani, along with his sister, Florida Hoxha, and her husband, Ian Alexander Kirkpatrick.
The four had come to Athens on vacation and were staying in the first-floor apartment. According to information available so far, they were due to depart for the United States on Friday, just hours after the explosion occurred.
The other two victims of the Plaka tragedy
The remaining two victims were Athena Papaprescou and Edmond Hings, the owners of the building.
Authorities continue to investigate the devastated building on Lysikratous Street, while the formal identification process for all six victims is currently underway.
