According to the statement, his body will be at the Holy Trinity Church of Nikaia on Sunday, September 13 — the church and parish he held especially dear — so that all friends and fans who wish to pay their respects may do so in person. The family has described the event as a “public vigil,” set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and continue through the early hours of Monday morning, as a tribute of honor and love to his memory.
The funeral of Giorgos Mazonakis will take place on Monday, September 14, at the Third Cemetery of Athens, in a private ceremony for close family only. The family has also extended a heartfelt request that those who wish to honor him make a donation to Humanity Greece instead of sending flowers. In their announcement, the family of Giorgos Mazonakis noted that they share this news “with a broken heart and unspeakable grief,” inviting all those who loved him to come and bid him farewell at his beloved church.
