Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a direct message to the United States regarding the end of the war in Ukraine. Just one day before the crucial US midterm elections, the Ukrainian president delivered a video message stressing that only Washington has the power to exert enough pressure on Russia to bring the armed conflict to an end. He also called on the US not to “play games with Russian oil and gas,” warning that revenues from those resources are what allow Moscow to keep the war going.

Zelensky warns of a new large-scale Russian attack
Zelensky revealed that he has received new intelligence regarding Russia’s preparations for attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and infrastructure. He specifically noted that US midterm election day, Tuesday (3/11), represents what he believes to be an ideal opportunity for such a strike, as “the entire world’s attention will be focused there.”
At the same time, the president of Ukraine once again raised concerns about the state of Ukrainian air defenses, highlighting the serious difficulties caused by the shortage of Patriot missile systems. He warned that developments on the Ukrainian front and the country’s air defense needs risk being pushed to the sidelines while international attention remains fixed on the American elections.

“We have intel that Russia is preparing a new massive attack on our country — primarily targeting energy infrastructure and supply networks. The assumption is, essentially, that tomorrow the world will be watching the US midterm elections, and what is happening here in Ukraine will take a back seat — along with the difficulties we face regarding air defense and Patriot missiles.
We need messages from the international community to Russia that make it clear that terrorism does not pay, brings no benefit, and that as long as this war continues, their oil will burn and they will not be able to profit through trade with the rest of the world. We cannot afford to play games with Russia’s oil and gas revenues. We must apply such pressure on Russia that it has no choice but to end this war. America can make that happen.”
