A 33-year-old man who had escaped from Kassandra Prison in Halkidiki was located and arrested in Kozani. A 44-year-old woman was also taken into custody, facing charges of aiding and abetting an escape.
Coordinated police operation
The 33-year-old fugitive was apprehended following a coordinated police operation carried out by officers from the Kozani Crime Investigation and Detection Department and the Kozani Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit, working in collaboration with officers from the Kozani Police Precinct.
His arrest came after investigators successfully gathered and acted on intelligence, enabling them to locate and detain the 33-year-old in an area of Kozani. The man had failed to return to the Kassandra agricultural prison in Halkidiki after a temporary release pass. He was serving a 30-month sentence for domestic violence.
44-year-old woman arrested as accomplice
In connection with the same case, a 44-year-old Greek national was also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting a prisoner’s escape. The 33-year-old, who faces charges of escaping lawful custody, has been returned to Kassandra Prison, while the case file against the 44-year-old woman will be submitted to the Kozani Misdemeanours Court Prosecutor.
